Co-Founder and Co-Leader of Robotic Facilities
I co-founded the National Sustainable Robotics Centre (NSRC), an industrial-scale robotics research facility located at the Birmingham Energy Innovation Centre in Tyseley Energy Park. The centre supports research and demonstrations in automated disassembly and sustainable manufacturing. My work there has focused on AI-enabled robotic systems for EV battery testing and disassembly, developed with academic and industry partners.
At the University of Birmingham’s Extreme Robotics Lab (ERL), which I co-founded, I lead research on robotic disassembly. This work brings together robotic manipulation, machine vision, task and motion planning, teleoperation, and AI to address complex disassembly challenges. EV batteries are a major application, while the underlying methods can also be adapted to other end-of-life products and industrial processes.
